Increasing environmental awareness and the need to eliminate the use of chemicals has led to a new philosophy in rose breeding. Many older rose varieties do not meet today’s requirements for disease resistance and abundance of flowers without the use of chemicals. Kordes’ have stopped the use of fungicides on their trial grounds allowing them to accurately assess each varieties characteristic. This has resulted in only the healthiest roses amongst the thousands on trial being released onto the market. The new philosophy of roses breeding has meant that in comparison older varieties are more susceptible to disease. As a result, older varieties are gradually being removed from the market to be replaced with more resistant new releases. If you are in search of roses that are beautiful, disease tolerant and easy to care for, look no further then Kordes' bred roses.
For two years running we have received a Gold Medal for roses entered at the National Rose Trial Garden in Adelaide.
The yet to be released ‘Golden Beauty’, bred by world renown rose breeders Kordes Roses of Germany, won not only a Gold Medal, but also the People’s Choice Award for 2018.
Treloar Roses director Gary Matuschka and his wife Rachael attended the awards dinner in Adelaide last week and were extremely excited to be receiving the awards.
‘Golden Beauty is just that – an absolute beauty!’ said Treloar Roses director, Gary Matuschka.
‘We’re not surprised it won the people’s choice award also, and the fragrance is so strong. We are really looking forward to its release in 2020’ he added.
We were also awarded a Silver Medal for another future release, along with a Certificate of Merit awarded to the fabulous Fairytale Magic which was released earlier this year.
‘Fairytale Magic was up there as one of our best sellers this year. Now that Spring has arrived, and the roses are blooming, we are starting to hear the excitement and wonderful comments from many of our customers who purchased it which is great, because it’s one of our favourites too!’
ABOUT THE NATIONAL ROSE TRIAL GARDEN AWARDS
The National Rose Trial Garden of Australia is based in Adelaide, with rose trials conducted over a two year period. During this time, each variety is assessed fourteen times by a team of ten independent assessors drawn from all forms of gardening. The criteria for judging includes habit, health, flowering, pest & disease tolerance and fragrance. The scores are then converted to a percentage for the purpose of determining awards.
