Media Release - Rose Trials 2016

15th November 2016

Two recent releases from Treloar Roses, Dark Desire and Wedding Bells, have won big at the 2016 National Rose Trial Garden awards, held in Adelaide on Tuesday 25th October, 2016.
Dark Desire, Treloar Roses feature rose for 2016, was awarded a Bronze Medal and the Governor of Gifu Award (Japan) for Most Fragrant Rose of trial. Wedding Bells was awarded a Silver Medal, the Hamilton Gardens NZ Perpetual Challenge Award for the Best Hybrid Tea Rose of the Trial, along with The Irwin Award for the Most Pest and Disease Tolerant Rose of the Trial.
Treloar Roses director, Gary Matuschka and his wife Rachael attended the awards night and were elated with the results.
‘Dark Desire and Wedding Bells are two fantastic recent releases for Treloar Roses.  We knew they were great varieties from our own trials, but these awards prove beyond doubt their suitability for the Australian climate.’ said Gary.
Dark Desire also forms part of a new fragrant range of roses which was released in Australia in 2016.  The Parfuma® Collection was created by world renown rose breeders, Kordes Roses of Germany who Treloar Roses are Australian agents for.
‘Dark Desire is also part of our new Parfuma collection of roses which proved to be very popular this year, and for very good reason. These new Parfuma’s are not only beautifully fragrant, but are extremely healthy too. We have another two new ones ready for release in 2017, which is very exciting.’ Gary remarked at the awards.

The  National Rose Trial Garden is based in Adelaide, with rose trials conducted over a two year period. During this time, each variety is assessed fourteen times by a team of ten independent assessors drawn from all forms of gardening. The criteria for judging includes habit, health, flowering, pest & disease tolerance and fragrance. The scores are then converted to a percentage for the purpose of determining awards.
Treloar Roses was founded by the late Ted Treloar during the early 1960s. He started selling rose plants from his nursery located at the back of his fruit and vegetable shop. His dedication to the industry and passion for roses saw the business grow into Australia’s leading rose nursery. Today, the business is operated by Trent Treloar, grandson of Ted Treloar and Gary Matuschka. Treloar Roses are one of Australia’s primary rose introducers, presenting the best new releases from rose breeders worldwide. Visit for further information.
