Increasing environmental awareness and the need to eliminate the use of chemicals has led to a new philosophy in rose breeding. Many older rose varieties do not meet today’s requirements for disease resistance and abundance of flowers without the use of chemicals. Kordes’ have stopped the use of fungicides on their trial grounds allowing them to accurately assess each varieties characteristic. This has resulted in only the healthiest roses amongst the thousands on trial being released onto the market. The new philosophy of roses breeding has meant that in comparison older varieties are more susceptible to disease. As a result, older varieties are gradually being removed from the market to be replaced with more resistant new releases. If you are in search of roses that are beautiful, disease tolerant and easy to care for, look no further then Kordes' bred roses.

A brief history...
Treloar Roses was founded by the late Ted Treloar during the early 1960’s in Portland, Victoria. He began selling rose plants from his nursery located at the back of his fruit and vegetable shop. Ted quickly become frustrated by the problems of obtaining newer releases and quality plants, so he purchased some land and began a lifelong career in growing roses.
During the 1960’s Ted saw the potential in sending bare root rose plants direct to customers by mail, as they travelled extremely well during the winter dormant season. In 1966 he produced the first of our now famous colour catalogues.
Ted’s dedication to the industry and passion for roses saw the business grow into Australia’s leading rose nursery, supplying both direct to the public and retail nurseries Australia wide.
Today we are still a family business. Now in the third generation, Treloar Roses is managed by Ted’s grandson, Trent Treloar and in partnership with Gary Matuschka. Both have been trained in the rose industry under Ted’s watchful eye and have inherited Ted’s passion.
Today Treloar Roses are one of Australia’s primary rose introducers. Each year the best new releases from rose breeders worldwide are presented to the public.
Every rose from our imports are trialled prior to release and undertake years of assessment for their suitability to Australia’s climate.
Treloar’s have received over 88 awards at the National Trial Garden of Australia.
Our farm is situated in the beautiful coastal town of Portland, Victoria.
Portland is Victoria's first permanent settlement, established in 1834 and still maintains over 200 buildings from the 1800's. The town boasts many natural attractions including wide sweeping pristine beaches, rocky headlands and secluded coves. The coastline gives way to undulating farming country and National Parks with walking tracks and picnic areas that include the famous 250 km of The Great South West Walk. Most outdoor activities can be accommodated in the region and Portland has become the gateway to not only the wineries of South Australia but the Gunditjmara Budj Bim National Heritage Landscape and The Great Ocean Road.
